L’institut de Yoga Intégral, un organisme sans but lucratif, fut fondé en 1966 par Swami Satchidananda, un maître spirituel de renom. Le Yoga Intégral est un système complet visant à procurer le bien-être, la santé et la diminution du stress par un ensemble de postures (asanas) douces, de pratiques de respiration (pranayama) et de méditation – approprié pour les gens de tous les niveaux, les âges et les morphologies. Le Yoga Intégral se pratique dans un esprit œcuménique tenant pour devise « La Vérité est unique, les chemins sont multiples. »

Integral Yoga, founded in 1966 by Sri Swami Satchidananda, is a worldwide, not-for-profit Yoga organization dedicated to the principles of peace, healthful and balanced living, and selfless service.

Integral Yoga is known for its gentle, steady poses and meditative approach. Classes often also include breathing exercises (pranayama), chanting, kriyas, meditation and can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, size and ability.

Here in Montréal, the Integral Yoga Institute offers affordable, comprehensive hatha yoga classes in both French and English. We are a member of the Fédération Francophone de Yoga.

New workshop at the Integral Yoga Institute of Montreal on August 12, given by Amy Colman-James:

“This is a 7-hour long, interactive workshop designed to inform and educate participants on the foundation of yoga alignment. Many students struggle to understand basic anatomical alignment as regular classes often deny the time to teach these imperative skills.  Through my yoga principles workshop I aim to help students improve their personal practice by teaching them the benefit of a strong, supported and well-aligned body.”

Recovery can be a long process, whether it’s from a dependence on substances, or compulsive behaviours (gambling, gaming, overeating or even shopping). Yoga can help support the recovery process by providing holistic tools to help prevent relapse, maintain sobriety and promote overall physical, mental and emotional balance to aid in coping with daily stresses.

Participants in this one-hour long class will benefit from the practice of physical postures, plus a short guided deep relaxation designed to revitalize all the body’s systems, all done in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

This donation-based series of 6 classes is appropriate for those who are in early or long-term recovery, regardless of age, ability, or size, and is intended to complement — not replace — a recovery program such as S.M.A.R.T. or The 12 Steps. Participants are encouraged to take part in all 6 classes to help build the foundation for a personal home yoga practice. This series of classes is based on the S.O.A.R. (Success Over Addiction and Relapse) Yoga program.

24 hour period of abstinence required prior to class.

YOGA RÉCUPÉRATION & PRÉVENTION DES RECHUTES

La récupération peut être un très long processus, autant pour ceux qui travaillent à se sortir de la dépendance aux substances toxiques que pour ceux qui se sont engagés dans des comportements destructeurs tels la dépendance au jeu, à la nourriture, ou même au magasinage. La pratique du Yoga renforce le processus de récupération en fournissant des outils holistiques qui aident à prévenir les rechutes, à maintenir la sobriété, et à promouvoir un équilibre physiologique, mental et émotionnel global permettant de faire face aux stress quotidiens.

Durant le cour de Yoga d’une heure, des postures physiques seront enseignées et pratiquées, ainsi qu’une courte séance de relaxation profonde, « guidée », conçues pour revitaliser les systèmes physiologiques, le tout dans une ambiance sereine et accueillante.

Cette série de six (6) cours reposant sur des dons s’adresse aux personnes engagées dans une démarche de récupération, que ce soit dans les premières étapes ou pendant un long cheminement, quel que soit leur âge, leurs compétences ou leur taille. Il s’agit d’un complément — et non pas d’un substitut — à un traitement approprié tels S.M.A.R.T ou « Les 12 étapes ». Les débutants en Yoga sont les bienvenus. Nous encourageons les participants à suivre chacun des 6 cours, ce qui leur permettra d’acquérir les bases pour pratiquer le Yoga à la maison. Cette série de cours est basée sur le S.O.A.R. (Success Over Addiction Relapse) Yoga Program.

Nous demandons une période d’abstinence de 24 heures avant les cours.

Our long, hot summer is transitioning into the cooler, quieter days of autumn. To start it off, we are introducing our new Fall schedule, beginning September 5, 2016 and some new Pathless Yoga classes, Yoga Nidra classes, a couple of Sunday Kirtans at the IYI, and other exciting workshops. We have also done a small renovation of our studio space, adding a new lounge area and library,  so come visit us!

Notre long été chaud est en train de passer dans les jours plus frais, les plus calmes de l’automne. Pour démarrer le tout, nous présentons notre nouveau calendrier d’automne, à partir du 5 septembre 2016, avec de nouvelles classes de Yoga Sans Voie, des cours de Yoga Nidra, des dimanches de Kirtans (le chant dévotionnel) au IYI, et d’autres ateliers intéressants. Nous avons également fait une petite rénovation de notre studio, en ajoutant un nouveau salon et bibliothèque, alors venez nous visiter!

With the goal of making yoga more accessible to everyone, regardless of financial means, skill level or age, we are introducing a $8 (suggested donation) community class on Fridays at 6:15 PM, beginning July 1, 2016. Loosely based on our Integral Flow / vinyasa style classes, the pace of the class will be adjusted to the overall skill level of the class. Beginners and regular members welcome. Avec l’objectif de rendre le yoga plus accessible à tous, indépendamment les moyens financiers, le niveau de compétence ou de l’âge, nous introduisons une classe de la communauté 8 $ (don suggéré) les vendredis à 18h15, à partir du 1er juillet 2016. Inspiré de nos classes de style vinyasa “flow” Integral,  le rythme de la classe sera ajustée au niveau de compétence globale de la classe. Integral Yoga Celebrates 50 Years

The spiritual philosophy of Yoga is thousands of years old. Founded in 1966 by Sri Swami Satchidananda, Integral Yoga was one of the first organizations to bring the ancient teachings of yoga to the West. This year, the school of Integral Yoga is turning 50 years old. “Over the past half century, the lives of countless spiritual seekers have been transformed through the comprehensive and in-depth approach of Integral Yoga that integrates all aspects of our lives and maintains our natural condition of an easeful body, peaceful mind and useful life.”

2016 New Classes

The New Year is upon us! This year, we are introducing a new Integral Flow yoga class, inspired by the dynamic, flowing movements of vinyasa-style yoga, and combined with the meditative, gentle approach of Integral Yoga. One full hour of more vigorous postures, synchronized with the breath, followed by a half hour of complementary practices like deep relaxation, pranayama and meditation. Recommended for intermediate students or those with a basic familiarity with yoga asanas. Thursday evenings at 6:15 PM. For more information, see Classes and Schedule.

Changements d’horaire 2016 / Schedule changes 2016:

1. New Integral Flow class, Thursdays at 6:15 PM. Runs until March 3.

2. Notre classe de yoga doux en français a déplacé au lundi à 18 heures.

3. Wednesday morning English gentle/restorative yoga class has moved to Thursday mornings at 10:30 AM. Monday morning classes remain the same.

4. New gentle/restorative yoga class in English on Fridays at 6:15 PM. Runs from January 15 to March 18, 2016.

Spring is finally here and we are starting up our new schedule. There will be hatha yoga in French on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm. English gentle hatha yoga classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays at 10:30 am and Thursdays at 6 pm. Meditation sessions continue at 12 pm noon on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Happy 2015!

Le printemps est arrivé et nous commençons notre nouveau horaire. Il y aura un cours de hatha yoga en français les mardi soirs à 18 heures. Cours de hatha yoga en anglais seront les lundis, mercredis à 10h30 et le jeudi à 18 heures. Sessions de méditation continuent à 12:00 midi les lundis et mercredis.

New Classes for 2014

We’re starting the new year on a mindful footing by offering two new classes! To end your week right, there will be a new Friday evening gentle hatha yoga class (in English), with last Friday of every month being a special “free Yoga” class in Honour of the 100th birthday anniversary of Swami Satchidananda. Also, Monday evening will feature a new Gentle Hatha class in French. For meditation, come check out our new 30-minute Noon Meditation sessions.

Here’s a great video showing the process and finished result of the new IYI art mural depicting Integral Yoga® founder Swami Satchidananda, done for the 100th anniversary of his birth (1914-2014). It’s a marriage of yogic peace with streetsmart urban art, giving IYI a colourful presence in its already diverse neighbourhood of Mile End.
