Yoga & Meditation for Addiction Recovery & Relapse Prevention (6 Weeks)

September 2nd, 2018 | Posted by IYI-Montreal in Classes

Recovery can be a long process, whether it’s from a dependence on substances, or compulsive behaviours (gambling, gaming, overeating or even shopping). Yoga can help support the recovery process by providing holistic tools to help prevent relapse, maintain sobriety and promote overall physical, mental and emotional balance to aid in coping with daily stresses.

Participants in this one-hour long yoga class will benefit from the practice of physical postures, plus a short guided deep relaxation designed to revitalize all the body’s systems, all done in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

TIME / HORAIRE: 14 – 15h
DATES: Sundays, September 16 – October 28 (6 classes, no class October 7; taught in English)
WHERE / LIEU: Institut de Yoga Intégral de Montréal, 5425 Avenue Du Parc
DONATION / DONS: $5.00 (suggested per class / par cours — pay-what-you-can but no one turned away / mais personne ne sera refusé à la porte)

Meditation can help support the addiction recovery process by giving us tools to retrain the mind, develop emotional stability, reduce anxiety and stress. Our self-awareness is deepened through the practice of meditation, allowing us to gain deeper insight into the root causes of our habitual tendencies, which can help reduce cravings and prevent relapses.

This one-hour meditation & support group session combines brief instruction in various simple, mindfulness meditation techniques, readings, and a “sharing circle” / support group component to encourage participants’ journey toward long-term recovery. All are welcome, no previous meditation experience necessary.
